IT’S A DISTINCT ADDITION TO HOUSTON’S SKYLINE: The Residences at Kirby Collection, a 25-story luxury building in (wait for it) Upper Kirby, is the city’s first elliptical-shaped high-rise, one you’ve no doubt seen while cruising down the ritzy thoroughfare this curved show-stopper named for. The 199-unit project is a collaboration between New York-based developer Thor Equities, San Francisco design architect Richard Keating Architecture, L.A. interior designer Dianna Wong Architecture + Design, and local architect of record Kirksey.

Rent ranges from $2,900 to $10,000 for penthouses, and 21 different floor plans include one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, townhomes with direct street access, and garden lofts with private backyards and outdoor kitchens.

Units on the building’s south side boast views of downtown, the med center, NRG, and Greenway Plaza; for unobstructed panoramic views of the entire city, there’s the 25th floor sky lounge, also home to a gourmet kitchen and—what else?—a baby grand piano.

Urban high-rise living now comes with a backyard, as evidenced by the one-acre, landscaped outdoor terrace on the building’s sixth floor. That’s where you’ll also find a fire pit, cabanas, and heated pool situated to receive consistent sun all day long—so nice we may or may not have suggested sneaking in this summer. 

Other amenities include 24-hour concierge and car and bike valet. If the gilded elevator lobby didn’t tip you off, this is luxury living; as such, every unit comes equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows, a European-style kitchen (including a wine fridge and waterfall countertops), personal balconies, and—the most important feature of all, if you ask us—expansive walk-in closets.
